“Me & My Family” - Eu si Familia Mea

The RCR/Fundatia Inocenti "Eu si Familia Mea" program, or "Me & My Family Together," provides services to more than 200 children in foster care and group homes in Bistrita-Nasaud County.

“Eu si Familia Mea” is funded, in part, by LIFT The Children Foundation. The program provides daily services to children in the recuperative center, plus monthly support groups for all foster families, with daycare and transportation costs provided. The program also provides families with home visits and consults from a Psychologist and Physical Therapist, as needed, as well as a monthly newsletter with behaviour management, child development and educational information.

In 2004, the program was expanded to serve 35 more children with severe and profound special needs, who were moved out of the local hospital for the handicapped (Camin Spital) in November, 2004. This intensive home-visit program provides all of these children with weekly visits from a trained Outreach Worker, as well as support much needed handicapped euquipment and therapy as needed from a Psychologist and Physical Therapist.

This special needs support program is funded in part by USAID through World Learning. Both programs are operated with strong collaboration from the local Department of Child Protection (DJPDC) - and the local Rotary and Rotaract Clubs.

Hospital Child Life Programs

The RCR/Fundatia Inocenti “Child Life” programs provide hundreds of hospitalized children with the child-focused, developmentally appropriate activities and care that institutionalized children need to grow and develop normally. RCR/FI sponsors two pediatric "Child Life" programs in Romania.

Rusescu Hospital - Child Life Program

RCR's first program was started in 1990 in Rusescu Spital, a pediatric hospital in sector 2 of Bucharest. Today RCR/FI supports 6 staff people and 12 volunteers working with 100+ children throughout the hospital. Special programs include: Daily Preschool, Infant and Older Children programs; Bedside activities for children unable to come to the play room; Early Literacy training; and Nutrition Training for parents.

Abandoned children are also brought to outpatient clinics for PT and Speech as needed, with ongoing exercises overseen by RCR/FI staff. Occasionally, our staff will accompany an abandoned child in need of life-saving surgery in other hospitals throughout the country.

Bistrita County Hospital Child Life Program

RCR's 2 Child Life staff and partners serve a 70 child pediatric unit in the Bistrita county hospital. Programs include Infant, pre-school, and older children's activities, plus nutrition and abandonment prevention counseling for mothers. There is also an Early Literacy program for children and their families.

LITERACY PROGRAM

Because of the speech and language delays suffered by most children raised institutions, RCR runs an Early Literacy program for children in our hospital and Foster Care support programs. The curriculum, which features more than 30 books with special talking points and activities for each book, was developed by RCR/FI Board members. Today the program serves 60 children with weekly visits from trained Literacy Volunteers.
